The Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC) consists of Alberta's 69 incorporated rural municipalities. To honour its 100th anniversary as an association representing rural municipalities and rural interests in Alberta and Canada, the AAMDC hosted the Rural Matters! Forging Healthy Canadian Communities national symposium.
The AAMDC mission is to assist rural municipalities to achieve strong and effective local government. The AAMDC:
- Facilitates opportunities for members with common interests to meet and share information and experiences.
- Develops and implements processes to effectively determine membership opinion on issues.
- Provides timely, concise and relevant information to AAMDC members.
- Provides quality learning opportunities for members.
- Promotes a broader understanding and awareness of rural interests and priorities.
- Develops comprehensive, informative, and user-friendly background packages outlining rural perspectives, priorities, and issues.
- Provides a unified voice for rural Alberta.
- Influences government policy to reflect member interests.
- Establishes partnerships and build alliances.
- Communicates with provincial and federal officials to create a clearer understanding of rural priorities and concerns.
