Sturgeon County’s Fleet Maintenance department is recruiting for a: Heavy Equipment Technician Responsibilities include but are not limited to: •Perform maintenance and repair on all County vehicles and equipment as required in Fleet Maintenance Services shop or on site; •Perform maintenance and repair on external customer vehicles or equipment as directed by Shop Foreman or FMS manager; •Conducts Commercial Vehicle Inspections on all County truck/tractor units in accordance with Provincial regulations; •Responsible to provide accurate parts order lists for required repairs to FMS Service Coordinator; •Provides feedback to the Shop Foreman on changes required to the Preventive Maintenance Program to ensure it is effective and efficient; •Accurately completes the required portion of the work orders on all repairs and maintenance performed; •Reports to the Shop Foreman any irregularities in the operation and care of County equipment; •Ensures all repairs are performed in a cost effective and timely manner; •Attend Technical Training upgrading as required by the Manager; •Assist in the training and supervision at Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice and/or Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), student as dictated by the current Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Standards; •Provides daily updates on work order status to FMS Service Coordinator; •Follows the Sturgeon County Health & Safety Program guidelines and adheres to the worker responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the program manual and •Performs other related duties as required by Shop Foreman or Manager. Qualifications: •Must work effectively and efficiently with others and alone, always be punctual, be organized and perform accurate work. Communicate openly and contribute through ideas and voicing of concerns in a positive manner. Work is performed in the Fleet Maintenance Services Shop or on a work site within the County. Heavy physical job requirements of occasional lifting of 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing, crawling and extended twisting movements. Working in a positive team atmosphere is strongly encouraged. •This position requires a current Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Journeymen Certificate or equivalent and 2 – 3 years experience on mobile construction equipment. Must use own personal hand and air tools to perform this job. Experience in working with a Preventive Maintenance Program or Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program license and a Class 3 drivers license would all be assets. Previous experience in heavy equipment operating would also be an asset. •A clear 3 year drivers abstract will be required prior to commencement of employment.
